The Montauk Art Theater, an NYC-Hamptons-based retreat for beginners and professional actors, was founded by Gary Swanson in 2006 in the spirit of the 1931 Group Theater. It is an all-encompassing safe place for actors to work and develop. The Montauk Art Theater is a sanctuary to refine and hone the craft of acting, explore the work and breathe new life into inspiration by bringing the actor into contact with a universal power, the creative source that knows no limitations. Our Hamptons retreat allows an artist to capture that inspiration and infuse it directly into their acting work.

What this does: It frees the actor to tell their stories, using their own lives, with a limitlessness for the pleasure and edification of others.

The goal of our flagship summer program is to train to excellence then produce Industry Showcases for stage and film.

Gary has forged relationships with several major film companies, executives, and industry insiders. Many participate in the Montauk program, as students as well as speakers. Montauk’s location provides a unique opportunity for meeting people who work in the industry and gaining valuable insight from their experience.

Starting in June 2019, year 13th of The Montauk Art  Summer Program will commence at my home for actors and the artists. Talk show host, artist, martial artist, physical therapist and philosopher, Hiam Mizrahi will be joining us to teach classes in oil painting and martial arts. Gary is a co-host on his show “Hello Hello,” found on LTVEH.

Greg O’Connor, will be working with us teaching Yoga, Basic Technique and scene work.  Liz Karmooch, a certified in Massage Therapist and Pilates instructor will join the staff teaching dance and basic techniques.

Our mission is to cultivate Method Actors, shaping them into a trained “farm team,” primed for casting in feature films and television.
